~Trip to Ye Olde Smokehouse Fraser Hill~ "Far Over The Misty Mountain Cold ..."

It all began when Kids and I saw this Groupon for a 2D1N stay at Ye Ole Smokehouse, Fraser Hill:

The minute I saw the deal go up, there was no question that we were going. >< We've been wanting to go to Smokehouse for ages now, and personally experience the quaint, 1900s British surroundings and atmosphere instead of just looking at beautiful photographs online and wishing we were there ... but the expensive prices turned us off. :( Groupon was our only hope!

With almost no hesitation, and with the punching-in of a few credit card details later, we had two coupons for a 2-night stay. We we were on our way for an adventure! :)

We left the day after Kids' birthday, sort of like a post-birthday getaway-from-reality trip. OwO After a quick lunch at Old Town White Coffee, and after stocking up on supplies and arming ourselves with a Waze-equipped mobile phone, we made our way.

The road leading up to Fraser is long and winding, and at times a bit scary, because there's only a very flimsy metal railing between you and a hundred-metre drop down into the hillside forest. Q_Q

But the scenery was gorgeous ... it honestly felt like we were in The Hobbit, travelling far over misty mountain cold to reclaim the Lonely Mountain (because we're dramatic and delusional that way~ OvOb). We passed by waterfalls and giant fallen trees and felt the temperature slowly drop as we steadily climbed upwards in our 2-hour drive from KL.

The appropriate soundtrack for our journey ...

We passed by the Fraser Hill town, with its charming little clocktower and surrounding colonial buildings, before we climbed up a bit further to get to the Smokehouse.

We were greeted at the door by the very kindly-looking manager, Mr Hafiz (sort of like our own Bilbo Baggins whose house we invaded for supper, lol), who was very accommodating and friendly. :)

In our room, we found waiting for us a little personalized note, a bowl of fresh fruits and a packet of homemade biscuits, which was a nice touch. :)

Bed and board for the night ...

After checking into our room, unpacking and chilling out in the room for awhile, we went to the lounge overlooking the garden for teatime with scones.

Teatime spread to make even the most picky Hobbit happy ... well worth the long journey~

I guess it was the atmosphere, but the tea was honestly delicious, and the teatime spread was not bad: scones with cream and jam; apple-pie, walnut cake, butter cake and brownies with delicious BOH tea (seriously, the tea was really good!). Not surprised to learn that sometimes KL-ites drive the odd 2-hours up to Fraser's just for the Smokehouse teatime, then drive back down to the city the same day. @__@;

We spent the rest of the evening exploring the surroundings of Fraser Hill -- driving up and down winding roads and checking out old mansions that have been converted into boarding houses or bought over by corporations (like Maybank and TM).

Later that night, we explored the little township, and had dinner at Scott's Bar, a charmingly-decorated inn-like restaurant, using full advantage of our 10% discount as Smokehouse guests.

Clock structure in Fraser Hill town ...

Sleeping in a 4-poster bed that night, I honestly felt like a little Lady, or princess, lol~ Half-expecting a butler to bring me breakfast-in-bed when I woke up, with an ironed newspaper eheh~ >w< /daydreams

Nighttime view from our room window ...

Speaking of breakfast, that morning they served us a beautiful English breakfast -- sausage with beef bacon, toast with jam and marmalade, roast tomato, fried mushrooms and your choice of eggs (I had mine poached), with coffee/tea and orange/mango juice. Honestly one of the best, most rewarding breakfasts I've ever had. <3

Dinner the second night was at Smokehouse itself - we had our complimentary drinks (redeemable anytime throughout our stay). The odd-yet-charming Smokehouse procedure for ordering dinner involved us sitting and waiting in the lounge with a pair of menus, and after taking our orders, they'd lead us to our dinner table afterwards.

Took a few shots of the longue while waiting for our dinner to be served ...

Dinner and dessert~!

We both ordered pastas, but were told that their roasts and freshly-made soups are their specialty (maybe to be tried on our next trip? hoho~ OwO).

It was a great stay overall -- wish I could have stayed longer and tried more of the food~ :D There were very interestingly-named stuff (the Brits really had a thing for giving food weird names, like 'Angels on Horseback', whut~) that I wanted to try, but maybe I'll save that for my next trip up misty mountains cold. :D

Our "Second Breakfast" the next morning in the garden, heh~ :)
