[MOVIE REVIEW] "Home" by Dreamworks

This is the first time in a long time I felt compelled and affected enough by a movie to write a review. :)

"Home", the latest offering by Dreamworks, is a sadly underrated movie - even when I watched it with my friends, nobody had heard about it before, and it was almost silent in terms of marketing noise. Seeing the success of "How to Train Your Dragon", you'd think you'd have heard more about "Home".

But I think going in with zero expectations is the formula for enjoying "Home". :) I went in, expecting very little, and came out entertained and pleasantly surprised. It's a fun and silly flick with lots of random humour and snarky references -- but underneath all the jokes, there's a core of deep, substantial sentiments and heart.

[Movie Review] Gravity

It was a random, spontaneous decision to watch 'Gravity' with my cousins and siblings yesterday, and it was probably best I didn't know much about the film before watching it. I'd only seen the trailer once, and knew the plot was could entirely be summed up as, "Sandra Bullock in space", but beyond that, I knew nothing.

So it ended up as a pleasant surprise that I quite enjoyed the film~ Because the plot is so simple (yes, if I had to sum it up in 4 words, it would be just, "Sandra Bullock in space"), it had quite a strong message and visuals laden with meaning and symbology.

Movie Review: "The Croods"

Light night, I caught a preview screening of 'The Croods' with my siblings.

I went into the cinema not expecting much: I knew it was a Dreamworks film, and that Yuna was doing a duet with Owl City for the official movie theme (side note: Way to go for making an international name for local music scene, Yuna! :D).

I totally didn't expect a genuinely entertaining, intelligent, legit-funny and well-written film. :D

Movie Reviews: 'Django Unchained' & 'Warm Bodies'

It's the season of movie-marathoning again, and for the past two nights I've been to back-to-back movie premieres -- 'Django Unchained' on Monday, and 'Warm Bodies' on Tuesday. :D

The fact that I needed to blog about them just to release my inner fangirl goes to show how impressed I was.

films I'm looking forward to!

I think we might just be entering another great age of cinema.

And not only because we are the generation that's the first to appreciate the genius that is Christopher Nolan (even though he's definitely part of that reason!), but because of these:

Life of Pi - Official Trailer (HD)
Director: Ang Lee (Brokeback Mountain)
Am expecting this to be another one of those visual masterpiece buffets that I'm so fond of ... need to remind myself to read the book first!

The Cloud Atlas - Official Trailer (HD)

Directors: Wachowski Brothers (Matrix Trilogy), Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run)
Another great-looking film based on a book -- the trailer is a whole 5 minutes long! -- that has potential to be a storytelling epic. *w*

Rise of the Guardians - Official Trailer 2 (HD)
Director: Peter Ramsey (Monsters vs Aliens)
The story and character concepts are quite interesting (Russian Santa, who woulda thunk? XD), and Dreamworks has always been consistent with their 3D-animated works. :D Plus, voice talents of Chris Pine, Jude Law and Hugh Jackman? Yes, please. *fans self*<3
