One of the many merry misadventures Kids and I get ourselves into is completely ignoring the risk of ruined kitchens and ruined appetites, and attempting to cook. Yesterday, we tried to make our mark on the culinary world by making croquettes. :D
Because the Halloween party we were invited to was pot-luck, we saw it as a chance to prove our cooking skills and try to make croquettes like how we saw in this video Kids posted to my Wall a few weeks back:
Croquette: Also known as 'begedil Jepun' :D
And now, for the Kids & Cappy version! *w*
Step 1: Peel, chop & wash potatoes.
Step 2: Boil the potatoes until tender and fluffy. Test with a fork.
Step 3: Mash the potatoes, adding cream & butter as you go.
Step 4: While potatoes are boiling, mince and fry onions, together with garlic.
Step 5: Prepare the minced beef. Once thawed, knead into a smooth mix, and cook together with garlic & onions. Add salt & pepper to taste.
Step 6: Add mashed potato mixture to minced meat. Cook together over low heat until perfectly mixed.
Step 7: Once slightly cooled, add a little cooking oil to the palms of your hands, and shape the meat & potato mixture into balls or oblong patties. Coat patties in flour.
Step 8: Prepare an egg + cream + flour mixture.
Step 9: Roll croquette patties in the egg mixture.
Step 10: Coat the patties in Japanese panko breadcrumbs.
Step 11: Deep-fry croquette patties in oil until crispy and golden brown.
Step 12: はい、コロッケできた!(≧▽≦) The croquettes are done! Serve with Kewpie mayonnaise and/or Worcestershire sauce.
The 'condensed' version:
We're proud to say, the croquettes were a hit at the party! :D Woohoo! /missionaccomplished
Special thanks to Narukids for lending her super-convenient kitchen and ... doing most of the cooking while I mostly flitted around and took pictures, harharhar~ :B
