~An Ode to Upstairs Cafe~

While the cast of Friends are busy hanging out on their favourite orange couch at the Central Perk, Ted and company are always at MacLaren's on How I Met Your Mother, and if you're a Malaysian from my generation, you'll probably remember Ipoh old-town Kopitiam gang from Kopitiam.

Seriously, does anyone remember this awesome series?

If my friends and I were cool, fascinating and popular enough to have our own TV sitcom, we would have ... Upstairs Cafe. OwO

Conveniently-located in secluded SS12 of the trendy neighborhood of Subang Jaya, Upstairs Cafe has become our token hangout for several reasons: its excellent coffee, great atmosphere, appetizing menu, and heavenly desserts. *A*

The decor of the place is also very tastefully done -- classy black-and-white photographs on the walls next to retro coffee posters, and antique coffee presses behind the counter. There's always some smooth jazz playing in the background. It also helps that the waitstaff are very well-groomed and well-mannered, like a fleet of butlers, heheh~

The first time I heard about Upstairs Cafe, it was after my high-school friend Justin introduced it to us when we were deliberating over where we should hang out next, ever since the food at our favourite mamak place started to suck when the management changed.

Justin (who has been brilliantly introducing us to cool places lately!) brought us over to Upstairs Cafe, and specifically told us to "try the brownies, they're good."

They were beyond good.
The first time I ate one of these brownies, I literally started to hate myself. O_O THEY ARE JUST THAT GOOD. Warm and crisp on the outside, with a sinfully gooey, chocolatey centre.

In our little gang, we've secretly dubbed Upstairs' brownies as the "Heavenly Brownies". And whenever we're feeling like we need another fix of brownie-heaven, the invitation is always, "Tonight, jom brownies?"

And I don't think it's just a local-Subang thing ... I've had a friend from Singapore who recently came over to KL for a weekend, and (having visited Upstairs Cafe last year) made it a point to visit it again before he returned home because he just, "needed to taste the brownies again."

Chocolate espresso cake~!

Blueberry cheesecake~

And let's not forget the other desserts: Red velvet cupcakes, French silk pies, scones, tiramisu, creme brulee, caramel pudding, Victorian sponge cake, and all a manner classy, delicious, fascinatingly-named cakes.

The main courses are also decently-priced, quite filling, and most importantly, delicious: I always go for the pastas, and they have some pretty awesome Shepard's pies, quiches and stroganoff beef pies.

Spaghetti bolognaise and spaghetti carbonara~

Quiche & salad~

Their drinks are also pretty top-notch, the best being their gourmet coffees! My favourites are the caramel macchiato and the mocha, two of the prettiest drinks.

Pictured here, the extremely pretty mocha~
