Artsy Weekends and Burger Nights

So let me tell you about my best weekend ever. :)

If I could sum up all the best parts of life into one neat little package, it would be this weekend right here. ^^ I feel as if I had filled up at least a month's worth of activity into these two short days -- I've been to new places, met fantastic new people, learned new things about life and the universe and all things happy.

Saturday, 23 Sept

Spent the morning helping Kids with her photoshoot in Putrajaya~
It was a pretty fun, laid-back shoot, where we took our time and didn't rush through things. The sky was the downcast steely grey of gloomy Malaysian mornings, but I was glad for softer lighting with no harsh shadows. :)

It was also the first time my reflector made her debut! :) But it was a very short-lived debut, because it was sooo huge, I couldn't hold it in position and snap photos at the same time. We should have invited a helper, but apparently we were far too clever to think of that. =__=;; orz

(Side introspective note: I suck at photography. Like, chronic-disease level of suckage. What is lighting? What is composition? What is colour balance and consistent editing? ffffff----)

We had our Zuhur prayers in the Putrajaya Tuanku Mizan Zaial Abidin Mosque (known more famously as, 'Masjid Besi' or the 'Iron Mosque', for being this monolith of steel bars and archways). It was my first time entering this mosque, and the architecture was amazing~ (Nifty note, since Kids came in wearing shorts, the attendant gave her these long purple robes to wear, which looked a lot like graduation robes. Pretty cool~)

It was such a tranquil, bright, breezy open space to be in, and I felt immediately at peace there. Kids made a half-joke about mosques being our new hangout places, hee~

First time stepping into the Iron Mosque ....

Later, after prayers and a short photography binge, we took off from Putrajaya to head to Central Market for Arts for Grabs, the indie art event ...

... and got extremely lost along the way. =.= Helpful hint for Waze users: Do not pick the first search option when Waze-ing your way to Central Market. Because the first option will lead you to some God-forsaken part of KL near a Chinese cemetery (my GPS wants me dead O__O). After nearly two hours on the road, a dozen u-turns and miles of detours later, we eventually arrived at Central Market.

Along the way to the Annexe Gallery where Arts for Grabs was being held, we spotted a little stall selling traditional Asian crafts ... including a wide variety of traditional folding fans.

My first thought: Flashbacking to Yukito's infamous photo (inspired by Ryan Higa), which went 'viral' throughout our friends' Facebooks recently:

It was like a heavenly beckoning ... I just knew I had to do the same thing. XD

Being the extremely uncool person that I am, first thing I did wasn't whip out my phone camera and explain coherently to Kids on my idea and execution ... but point at the stall like I've never seen fans before, and sputter, "I want to say thank you to all my fans!" before bursting out laughing because I am so hilarious. =.=

Kids -- either as a result of hanging around me way too much or from sharing some bizarre psychic link that allows her to read my thoughts -- knew exactly what I was referring to. She, too, burst out laughing uncontrollably for the next ten minutes.

(Side introspective note: I'm really glad for psychic best friends. Any other person would have stared at me strangely while worrying for my future, instead of standing there and laughing themselves catatonic with me. =w=;;)

So of course, as we were trying to control our giggles, the following was produced:

Hehehe. =w= Mischief managed.
I'm pretty happy with the results, if I do say so myself. And dare I say it went 'viral'?? XD haha (I love how much that word is abused these days) because soon after, Guki came up with her own version:

WE HAVE STARTED A REVOLUTION. OwO

But back to Arts for Grabs.
It was a fun, cheery, cosy little market, tucked into a cosy little atttic space (kinda like a hideaway for pirates), filled with books and art and movies and fascinating artsy people with only one agenda: Fill this world with beauty and ideas. It's great to be surrounded by such a great vibe. (Oh, and they were screening Astro's 'My Hometown' movies there too. Fancy that. :3)

I ended up buying a DVD anthology of short films made by independent Malaysian filmmakers, and a bunch of badges from I Heart Badges.

We made our way back to my house, where we spent the next few hours editing photos and posting them on Facebook like the spazzy people we are. And as soon as it was dinnertime, we shot out to Kelana Jaya to enjoy Flame Grilled Burgers for dinner. :D

These were GLORIOUS burgers ... thick grilled beef patties with cheese and caramelized onions, yummm~ Plus they had lamb and chicken meat burgers too! And with an additional RM 1.00, they add beef bacon strips, which I've never seen Ramly burger stalls do before~ OwO SO GOOD.

Sunday, 24 Sept

Today was for meeting up with our fluffy rainbow sheep darling Mbek~ Haven't seen her in a while, and missed her company~ OwO

The plan was to meetup at Sephora, Fahrenheit 88 in KL and shop for makeup, ohohoho. ~OwO~ And though I was broke from the day before, temptation to shop was too strong, and I found myself on the LRT from Taman Jaya heading towards KLCC.

I chilled at Fahrenheit 88 and Coffee Club until the Lavena, Devilline and Ethel arrived first. We romped and roved around Pavilion, discovering neat things such as macaroons and a spotty ladybug Vespa, until we were later joined by Mbek, KC and Mbek's cousin Andrea (whom were shopping earlier at Low Yat for HDDs and memory cards).

Browsing through Sephora is ... well, torture if you're broke! I so so so wanted Urban Decay's primer potion, but seeing the price, I knew I had to wait for my next paycheck! And the eyeshadow range ... all the lovely glittery stuff I'll probably only use once a year, but still so very pretty. GUH URBAN DECAY. SO TEMPTING.

And there was a Crabtree & Evelyn lipbalm that was flavoured creme brulee. CREME BRULEE LIPBALM. O_O And I nearly bought it, but instead settled for a dark eye circle & puffiness removing serum from Soap & Glory, because I figured I needed it more. =__=;; *stays up late and doesn't know why*

We hung out a bit at Coffee Club after that, where macaroons and gifts were distributed! Mbek darling gave me such cute gifts with a sweet message~ *is touched* ;w;

LAMB & FISH UNITED<3

Unfortunately I had to leave early, because later that day at 6pm, I was having my very first ukulele class! :D Yes, ladies and gentlemen, as soon as I saw the Groupon I knew my calling in life was to play ukulele. After years of wondering what musical instrument would suit my personality best (deliberating over violin, drums, guitar, even trumpet!), I know now: if I were a musical instrument, I'd be a ukulele: Weird, not everyone's first choice, and most at home by the beach~! *w*

Finding my way to Setia Alam with GPS on a phone with low battery was a bit of a challenge, but somehow I managed! The first class was very enlightening -- we learnt 4 chords (which we can use to play at least 3 songs! OwO) and I got to take home a pretty red ukulele. ^w^<3

Nyaa~<3
