[MOVIE REVIEW] "Home" by Dreamworks

This is the first time in a long time I felt compelled and affected enough by a movie to write a review. :)

"Home", the latest offering by Dreamworks, is a sadly underrated movie - even when I watched it with my friends, nobody had heard about it before, and it was almost silent in terms of marketing noise. Seeing the success of "How to Train Your Dragon", you'd think you'd have heard more about "Home".

But I think going in with zero expectations is the formula for enjoying "Home". :) I went in, expecting very little, and came out entertained and pleasantly surprised. It's a fun and silly flick with lots of random humour and snarky references -- but underneath all the jokes, there's a core of deep, substantial sentiments and heart.

[Concert] ~RADWIMPS Live Tour in Singapore 2014~

June has been a bit of a concert binge-ing month for me. Over 3 back-to-back weeks, I've been to 3 separate live shows, two of them being a flight away in Singapore.

I don't normally see so many live shows in such a short span of time (much less overseas), but coincidentally all the acts I want to see decided to make June their local stopover month -- and I couldn't let them get away without seeing them live at least once.

The first Saturday of June, I was in Singapore for the RADWIMPS concert, at TAB along Orchard Road.

[Cafe Visit] The Little Prince Cafe, Somme Road, Singapore

Earlier this year, I came across an article about hipster cafes in Singapore, listing these obscure cafes that I'm currently on the lookout for now.

One particular cafe caught my attention: A themed cafe based on the novel, 'The Little Prince' by Antoine de Saint-Exupery. It was one of my favourite books growing up, and my curiosity was stoked -- I knew I had to check it out some day.

[Book Reviews] "The Fault in Our Stars" by John Green & "Divergent" by Veronica Roth

Over the holidays, I decided to catch up on some reading in preparation for book-to-movie adaptations being released this year: The Fault in our Stars by John Green and Divergent by Veronica Roth.

Coincidentally, the protagonists for both books are being played by the same actress in their movie adaptations: Shailene Woodley, who will also be appearing alongside the same actor Ansel Elgort in both films.

I find it very ambitious for these two young, up-and-coming actors to be starring major roles in two movies being released in the same year ... plus, Ansel will be playing Shailene's brother in 'Divergent', and boyfriend in 'The Fault in Our Stars', making me wonder how they could change motivations in-between filming both roles. Should be interesting to watch once the movies are released!

But more on the movies later, this is a book-review post ...
More under the cut ...

[Movie Review] Gravity

It was a random, spontaneous decision to watch 'Gravity' with my cousins and siblings yesterday, and it was probably best I didn't know much about the film before watching it. I'd only seen the trailer once, and knew the plot was could entirely be summed up as, "Sandra Bullock in space", but beyond that, I knew nothing.

So it ended up as a pleasant surprise that I quite enjoyed the film~ Because the plot is so simple (yes, if I had to sum it up in 4 words, it would be just, "Sandra Bullock in space"), it had quite a strong message and visuals laden with meaning and symbology.

~What Travelling Means to Me~

DISCLAIMER: This is part-entry to Tourism Selangor's #TSBeakaway contest, part introspective reflection on my relationship with travel. Thank you for reading~! :)

I'll say it honestly: if someone told me I'd have to live out of a suitcase for the rest of my life, but it meant that I could trek across the Great Wall of China, photograph the Aurora Borealis, admire Neuschwanstein Castle in the winter, or perform a prayer in Instanbul's Blue Mosque, then I would say, cool, what's the minimum for check-in luggage?

The Return to Markets and Burgerlab~!

Almost like we were attempting a sequel or a remake, this Saturday was spent almost exactly like our last Markets-and-myBurgerLab-later outing~ :)

Not that that's a bad idea -- nothing like a day of productive shopping, topped off with an extremely satisfying dinner. I finally got to taste myBurgerLab's Kajuu burger, after months of craving it! And I got some pretty decent loot at the Markets@JayaOne, too~
